Road trip through America

At the beginning of April, I finally landed in Los Angeles – pretty tired from the flight, but incredibly excited about what lay ahead. The next day, I picked up my camper, quickly set it up, and off I went. Driving on the right again was a little strange at first! First night: Long Beach, and then I just slept on the side of the road in a residential area – a bit improvised, but it worked.
My first big goal: Joshua Tree National Park. Hours of driving through arid landscapes, past cacti and endless roads – and a stunning sunset. I found a place to stay overnight somewhere in the dark. The next few days were mostly spent driving. Long distances, often everything looks the same – you quickly learn to appreciate regular refueling.
The Grand Canyon was a huge highlight – literally! But I had completely underestimated the nights there: -7 degrees Celsius! A really cold night at the campsite, but the view during the day was worth the cold. We continued on to Page – camped in the Walmart parking lot for a few days, saw Antelope Canyon, and simply enjoyed the simple camper life.
Then through Zion National Park on to Las Vegas. What a city! Not exactly made for huge campers, but I treated myself to a Magic Mike show and had a truly entertaining evening. After that, things quieted down again – off to Death Valley, where there was no cell reception, but a truly beautiful silence. Over a winding pass and through rain clouds, we suddenly entered a completely different world: green forests and pure spring – hello, California!
Sequoia National Park was unfortunately a bit disappointing: lots of people, lots of burned forest. Yosemite National Park, on the other hand, was a true nature experience – with a beautiful sunset as a bonus. From there, I drove to San Francisco. The famous bridge was – like most – hidden in the fog. I originally wanted to head back down the coast to LA, but after days of fog and rain, I headed inland again.
Shortly before the end, I had a little scary moment at a campsite, but then I found a quieter spot closer to town. The last few days with the camper were approaching – and although I love being on the road, I was suddenly really looking forward to running water and a real bed.
On April 28th I continued on to New York – my last stop on this unforgettable journey.
